Novel Artificial Protein Cage Technology

Protein cages are synthetic virus-like particles (VLPs), that can be used to display biological material on their surface, or transport molecules such as nucleic acids or proteins into the interior of the cell.

nCage Therapeutics is developing a novel synthetic protein cage based on the bacterial TRAP protein.

What are TRAP cages?

TRAP-Cages are protein cages formed from rings of the bacterial TRAP protein. Protein cages are synthetic viral like particles that can act like a virus to display biological material on their surface, or transport nucleic acid, or proteins into the interior of the cell.

SYNTHETIC VIRAL LIKE PARTICLES

• nCage’s TRAP-cage Artificial Protein Cages are formed by multiple copies of modified or de novo protein components designed to form stable, hollow protein shapes.

• nCage’s platform is based on the bacterial TRAP protein.

•Protein cages are akin to synthetic viral particles (but without nucleic material).

• The outside of cages can be used to mount protein or other biologic material on the outside.

• Proteins can be mounted in repeating arrays mimicking the patterns and structures found in nature.

PROGRAMMABLE OPENING

• A unique feature of theTRAP-cage platform is programmable opening and closing of the cages.

• Therefore, cargo can be loaded into the interior of the cages and be released inside cells.

• Cargo can be proteins, peptides, nucleic acids or small molecule drugs.
